Our Dojo

Denshinkan - the place of passing on the truth. The name 'Denshinkan' was given by Sotaro Honda Sensei, who is a 7th Dan Kyoshi and an ex Great Britain team coach. Our dojo was founded in 2010 by James Ogle, who is currently our coach at Denshinkan. James is a 5th Dan National Level Coach and British team captain who has competed in the 15th, 16th and 17th World Kendo Championships and was Taisho of the GB men's team for their first win at the Nations Championships and continued to be Taisho of the team at the 27th European Kendo Championships before becoming full captain since 2017.

Denshinkan is proud to have three British team members, James and Andre from the men's team and Rosie from the GB women's team, and Tais from the Portuguese national team as well as many other Kendoka with varying levels of experience. Our members are very friendly and welcoming, so if you would like to try something new, fun and exciting, feel free to pop in for a session to get you started. Kendo is a great martial art for both men and women of all ages and we urge you to give it a go, regardless of athletic ability. All levels of experience are welcome!

As of 2022 we now also have the ONLY British woman to ever achieve a medal in the top 2 at the European Kendo Championships!  Rosie has done what no other British woman has done and has come home with a silver medal from the 2022 EKC in Frankfurt!
